LOUGHBOROUGH: A friend of the Rainbows charity, Pauline Wells, of Great Glen, gave a talk about her life "being a rebel in the 1950s at Leicester General Hospital", where she trained as a nurse.

She was talking to members of the Alpha Club, a ladies' group in Loughborough.

She has given her speaker's fee to Rainbows and the club members also bought merchandise in support of the charity.

COALVILLE: The Dutch star of stage and screen, organist Dirkjan Ranzijn, is making his first visit to Coalville.

See and hear him at the Forest Suite of the Charnwood Arms, Beveridge Lane, Bardon Hill, on Wednesday at 7.30pm, where he will be playing the state-of-the-art Bohm organ.

One of the world's foremost performers on the popular organ and keyboard scene, his typical repertoire includes pop hits, swing favourites, country and western, songs from the shows and light classics.

Quorn: A total of £331 has been sent to the Disaster Emergency Committee Appeal for Haiti from Quorn. Collecting tins are still in the shops, pubs and restaurants.

Quorn: A quiz night is being held on behalf of Quorn Scouts by quizmaster Phil Child at Quorn church rooms, on , March, 20, from 7.30pm. It costs £10 per head, including supper, with a maximum of six per team.
