Coal Play will be a rock show with a difference
A sound and light show will bring Snibston Discovery Museum's colliery heritage back to life during the first in a series of events to celebrate the centre's 21st anniversary.
Coal Play – a pun on the name of rock band Coldplay – will feature big-scale projection on to the buildings.
-

It is being held at 5.30pm next Saturday, January 19.
The images and accompanying sounds are designed to give the impression of a working mine, from the turning colliery wheel bringing the coal from the depths to the surface to the scrunching of miners' boots on their way to work.

Carolyn Able, Leicestershire County Council's heritage manager, said: "The first part will be inside the museum, where visitors will be squashed together in an image of the cage which took miners down to the coal-face, accompanied by sounds of the miners and the machinery."
Recordings of former miners' stories about their work as well as archive pictures are part of the show.
Ms Able said: "It is going to be a memorable experience."
Tickets, £4 for adults, £2 concessions, are available from the museum, or by ringing 01530 278 444.
