Collins wins top referees honour
Leicester-based James Collins has been named as the 2012 Midlands Rugby League match official of the year.
The award for referee of the year rewards one match official and it is based on their contribution to the Midlands regional leagues in that year.
Danny McNeice, the RFL match officials development officer for the region, paid tribute to Collins' achievements.
He said: "James has worked hard as a match official this year both on and off the field.

"It wasn't an easy decision to pick a winner this year.
"There have been a number of officials who have put themselves in the running for this year's award from a variety of levels within the region," added McNeice.
Commendable mentions went to Joachim Abimelech, who refereed his first academy game, and Barrie Thomas, who "once again gave up hours of his time and travelled throughout the region to referee where he was needed."
Collins received the award at the Midlands referees end-of-season dinner, an event which was only inaugurated this year.
The event is designed to give the referees an opportunity to get together and celebrate their achievements through the season.
Rugby league is always keen to attract new officials.
