Leicester Mercury

Having been awarded Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year in 2010, Josh Widdicombe is no stranger to the local comedy circuit, writes Louise Jenkins.

Fluffy-haired and bumbling, the Devon comic shared childhood memories involving custard-filled wellies, Laser Quest and the annual warnings about his village bonfire night.

Coming to terms with adulthood played a strong part in Widdicombe's stand-up, as was becoming recently single.

His father's obsession with gift shops provided a funny "show and tell" element to the stage, and we shan't forget about the miniature rucksack that really belonged to an inter-railing hamster.

Seann Walsh, Brighton's answer to Dylan Moran and winning the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year the previous year, had our eyes watering from the very off.

Bouncing onto the stage for the second half, Walsh expressed his disillusionment of the world we live in today.

Unable to drive yet with a clear hatred of the back seat, his slow motion performance of letting a passenger out at the traffic lights was particularly side- splitting, as were the remainder of his everyday tense observations and re-enactments of drunken antics the night before.

Two fantastic comics well-deserving of a packed theatre.
