Conmen posing as water workers

Two pensioners were confronted in their homes by men posing as water workers.

In the first incident, an 83-year-old man who had been asleep in an upstairs room of his house, in Grantwood Road, off Thorpe Road, Melton, woke to find a man on his landing.

The man said he was looking for water leaks. The pensioner later discovered £45 cash and some cigarettes were missing.

On the same day, a 75-year-old disabled woman living in Ludlow Drive, off Scalford Road, Melton, found two men inside her home.

They claimed to be from Dyno-Rod and said there was a problem with the water supply.

When the woman asked for identification, the men left. She later discovered drawers and cupboards had been opened.

The two men involved were described as young and smartly dressed.
