Council chief enlivens Civic Society meeting
Wigston: At the recent annual general meeting of Wigston Civic Society, members heard a lively presentation on the vision of the new borough council chief executive Mark Hall.
Mr Hall listed the initiatives he had implemented with the support of councillors to improve communication and community safety, to encourage businesses to relocate into the borough and to enhance the environment by better waste collection, street cleaning and green spaces.
Society members offered their support to Mr Hall.
The society's recently appointed chairman, Norman Fisher, summarised the work that had gone on in the year.
The committee was re-elected for a further year and members were reminded that meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at Age Concern in Wigston, at 7.15pm.
Birstall: The Birstall Methodist Thursday Group Ladies welcomed the Heart of England Barbers Shop Chorus for an evening of song and fund-raising for their charity for the year, Loros.
The 16 men, led by musical director Jim Pollock, gave the audience at Birstall Methodist Church an evening to remember with songs from yesteryear.
A total of £470 was raised for Loros and Pat Towson thanked the singers and the audience for their support.
