The slaughter of animals without pre-stunning is something I would imagine all persons with regard for animal welfare would object to, whether or not they eat meat.

The issue is a political hot potato and therefore does not receive the coverage it so richly deserves. This is a nettle that no political party seems eager to grasp and therefore many animals suffer what I would imagine to be an unnecessarily painful and protracted death.

While all other animal cruelty seems, quite rightly, to receive adequate attention, this seems to be swept under the carpet to avoid injuring religious sensibilities.

Perhaps people could, when purchasing meat or meals containing meat, enquire as to its origins.

“Religious sensibilities my foot - People who enter this country should abide by it's rules and practices - not ecpect to carry on with their own. These Halal butchers should be closed down. I have seen cages of live chickens being delivered to these shops along Harrison Road - The chicks all look quite sickly and no regard to their well being shown at all. Don't care it is bad for the animal and the practice should be stopped immediately.”
