Cycle team want ride to repay caring hospital staff

Staff from a label printing company are to cycle from coast to coast to raise money for two hospitals.

Seven people from Labelsco in Barwell are to tackle the 140-mile journey from Whitehaven to Tynemouth on October 13 and 14.

The fund-raisers are to collect in money for the breast care centre at Glenfield Hospital and the haematology unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Organiser Wayne Hopkins said the team wanted to try to repay the good work done.

Mr Hopkins, of Stoney Stanton, said: "I have a 64-year-old friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago.

"Luckily she has been able to battle through but the support and help she got from the Glenfield hospital was amazing.

"I had first-hand experience of the wonderful care they gave her. They were more like friends than doctors and nurses.

"I decided I had to do something to give back to them. I spoke to people at work and before I knew it we had seven up for the bike ride."

James Platts, another of the cyclists, is raising money to thank the haematology unit at the infirmary who cared for they gave to a friend of who his who sadly died last year.
