Cyclists will set off on a 100-mile fund-raising bike ride tomorrow.

Led by Vernon Dublin, brother of former Leicester City striker Dion, the team is made up of members of Leicester Central Seventh Day Adventist Church, in London Road.

The nine cyclists will ride from Skegness to Leicester on Sunday.

They are raising money for Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA UK).

Mr Dublin, from Oadby, said: "We wanted to do something different this year, something that would be fun and challenging but, at the same time, raising the profile of the appeal, as well as generating funds for needy causes."

ADRA UK was founded by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and each year runs a fund-raising appeal to help projects around the world.

In recent years, the charity has provided aid and support for victims of the Asian tsunami, which claimed more than 200,000 lives, the genocide in Rwanda and the Aids pandemic in South Africa.

In 2007, it provided close to £1.5 million for development and relief programmes in the UK.

Team member Vince Halliday said: "We're approaching this project in a spirit of togetherness and teamwork, in order to complete the course, as well as raising as much money as we can to help those who are less fortunate than ourselves."

A spokesman for ADRA UK said: "The funds raised for this year's appeal will make a huge difference to the lives of many people in the UK and across the globe."
