Davenport in top form for Newbold Verdon

Newbold Verdon began their cup campaign with a six-wicket victory over Narborough & Littlethorpe.

Narborough were put in and made 85-3 from their 20 overs.

David Whitmore made 31 not out and received strong support from Swatland (24 not out).

The Newbold bowlers were in fine form, Gilbert Davenport conceding just seven runs from four overs and George Jackson taking 1-9.

Newbold Verdon reached their target with three overs to spare, Davenport leading the way with 35 backed up by innings of 17 from Jackson and the unbeaten David Allen. Whitmore completed a fine game for Narborough with 3-2 in his four overs.

In the south east, Leicester City beat Dunton Bassett by 15 runs. Leicester City made 76-6 despite a fine spell from Neil Crane, who took 1-3.

Leicester's Elliot Keane claimed 4-7 as Dunton were dismissed for 61.

Faizal Kassam (32) and Sid Amar (21) guided Wigston Town to 94-9 but Market Harborough won by eight wickets with George Clarke hitting 42 not out and James Bindley 28.
