A decision on the political future of Leicestershire's deputy county council leader David Sprason was due to be announced today.

Coun Sprason voluntarily and temporarily stepped down as deputy leader and cabinet member in November after a letter was leaked to the Mercury which revealed that, in 2007, a porn DVD was found by a technician in his council-owned laptop computer.

It said the film did not contain any illegal material but he was warned by the council solicitor not to view such films on a council device again.

Party whips launched an investigation when Coun Sprason told the Mercury he was not embarrassed about the DVD. His interview resulted in widespread national media coverage.

Yesterday, County Hall's Tory group spent 90 minutes behind closed doors discussing recommendations that Coun Sprason be dismissed from his senior posts and suspended from the party for two months.

A spokesman said Coun Sprason had argued his case before colleagues voted on what steps to take.

“Is this not just a waste of time and money. So the bloke had a video on a computer. So what?Would be an issue if he bought it on expences!
If this issue is all the council has to spend time and money on,they must have a perfect ship to sail.”
