A man wept with relief after being cleared by a jury of outraging public decency.

Hanley Atkinson said he had been wrongly identified as someone who was acting indecently in a parked car.

The prosecution at Leicester Crown Court alleged he was seen by five men in McDonald's car park, in Wheatfield Way, Hinckley, wearing a wig and false breasts while allegedly behaving lewdly.

At first they thought it was a woman exposing her breasts but as they moved their vehicles and turned on their headlights, they realised it was a man dressed as a woman.

Mr Atkinson (46), of Victoria Avenue, Rugby, who is employed as cabin crew on long-haul flights, told the jury: "It wasn't me. I wasn't there."

He said that when the alleged incident happened, at 11.45pm on April 23, 2010, he was at a friend's house in Rugby. Two witnesses backed up his alibi.

When the jury yesterday delivered a not guilty verdict, Mr Atkinson clapped his hands and said "thank you".

Afterwards, he declined to comment.

The prosecution had alleged the five men, all in their 20s, who claimed to have seen a black man in a blue Vauxhall Astra exposing false breasts, followed the vehicle to get the registration number.

They gave the details to police – although one digit was different to the registration of the defendant's car of the same make and colour.

Three of the witnesses later picked Mr Atkinson in an identification procedure in which they were shown photos of a series of men.

Edward Barr, defending, said the identification was unreliable and that none of the other pictures shown to the witnesses looked like Mr Atkinson.
