Little Church Lane was also blocked by the lorry and rubble from the wall.

Resident Robert Butler, 25, said: “It felt like an earthquake.

“I was having a cup of tea at about 6.15am when there was an almighty bang and the house shook.

“I looked out of the window but did not see anything but when I set off for work I saw a lorry embedded in the church wall.

“There was no driver in the cab which was a mess.”

The road re-opened at about 10am but recovery work was continuing.

Meanwhile, Slash Lane, near Sileby, is reported to have reopened after being closed due to flooding yesterday.
