Melton Mowbray: The Historical Society heard retired county archaeologist Peter Liddle (pictured)  speak on Time Team in Leicestershire.

He revealed 'behind the TV scenes' to explain what happens when this very popular programme goes into an area. He revealed the details of the 'dig' at Stonton Wyville, in the south of the county. Anglo-Saxon buildings were found as well as evidence of previous Iron-age remains.

The April meeting will be on the third Friday in the month, (17th) because of Good Friday falling on the usual second week.

It will be the annual general meeting, starting at 7.30pm in the Samworth Centre, Burton Street, and will end the winter programme.

Further details of the summer programme can be obtained from Martin Burton on 01664 858369 or Brian Wilson on 01664 500449.

The programme includes all-day visits to Stoke Bruerne Canal Museum. Ironbridge, Ely, and a local visit round Whissendine.
