Doctor's fund-raising cycle ride is example of healthy living
A doctor set an example in healthy living when he completed a 200-mile cycle for an international medical charity.
Reza Kiani, of Groby, was among nearly 50 people who took part in the London to Paris ride on behalf of Doctors of the World, which provides health care for vulnerable people from earthquake victims to babies at risk of HIV.
Reza, who works at Glenfrith Hospital in Thurmaston Lane, Leicester, spent three days making the journey, which included an uphill haul through the Kent countryside, a ferry crossing from Dover and a finish at the Eiffel Tower.
He said: "I found out about the invaluable work of Doctors of the World and their mission to help people in need, especially those without access to healthcare, medicine or surgery.
"As a medic, I feel this can make a huge difference to the lives of vulnerable people all over the world."
He made the trip with charity supporters from France Belgium and the UK, having spent months training for it.
He said he had great memories and many new friends through the experience, and felt quite emotional by the end of it. So far, he has raised nearly £900 for the charity.
"The long term objective of the organisation is to make health a human right world-wide," he said.
"It is also providing free surgical procedures to children who have congenital malformations or who have become excluded as a result of physical deformity during war."
