Driver dies after crash on A46 in Leicestershire

A driver has died after a crash on the A46 in Leicestershire this morning.

The crash involved three vehicles. The driver of one of the vehicles received fatal injuries and died at the scene. One man has been taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary and his injuries are not believed to be serious.

The accident happened close to the junction with the A6 turn for Wanlip and was reported to police at about 6.45am.

Two men, aged 21 and 24, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police are warning drivers to avoid the route which will be closed this morning while investigations take place.

Detective Constable Rob Lapworth said: “Motorists are being advised that the A46 is closed from the junction with the A6, the turning for Birstall and Rothley up to the junction with Wanlip, people intending to drive along the A46 should seek an alternative route or expect delays.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision and hasn’t yet spoken to the police is being advised to contact police on 101.
