Police have named a driver killed in a car crash yesterday morning.

Jason Evans, 37, of Skeffington, between Billesdon and Tugby, died when his blue Lotus Elise convertible left the road and crashed into a lamppost and telegraph pole.

The accident happened on the A47 Uppingham Road, near its junction with Dalby Avenue, in Bushby, at about 3.15am.

Mr Evans was pronounced dead at the scene.

In our report on the crash yesterday, we said there were unconfirmed reports that Mr Evans was a father of two.

Police later said he was, in fact, a father of one.

A male passenger was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment, but has since been discharged.

The road was closed in both directions through the villages of Thurnby and Bushby to allow officers to carry out investigations into the incident. It has since been reopened.

The Lotus had been travelling towards Houghton on the Hill at the time. Detective Constable David Sharpe, who is investigating the collision, said: "We would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or saw the vehicle beforehand, to please contact us with any information they have."

Anyone with any information on the crash can contact Det Con Sharpe on 0116 222 2222.
