Driver freed from car in 'serious' condition
A man suffered serious injuries when his car was involved in a collision with a van.
Firefighters spent almost an hour cutting the driver free from the wreckage following the crash, on the A606 at Broughton Hill, between Ab Kettleby and Nether Broughton.
The accident, which involved the man's Fiat Brava car and a Mercedes Sprinter van, happened at 6.45pm on Friday.
Fire crews from Melton and Loughborough and the heavy rescue unit from Oakham worked to free the trapped driver.
He was taken to the Queen's Medical centre, in Nottingham. He remains at the hospital, where his injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.
The driver of the van sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the Queen's Medical Centre for treatment. He has since left hospital.
A section of the A606 was closed in both directions while the emergency services dealt with the incident.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw either of the vehicles before the collision, is asked to contact the police's serious collision investigation unit on 0116 222 2222.
