Duathlon: Davis shows class to land title
More than 100 athletes competed in the Hinckley & Market Bosworth 1485 Triathlon Club's fourth open duathlon.
The duathlon involved two 5k runs at the Bosworth water park with a 21k cycle in between.
The first 5k run saw Andrew Halliday, Hywel Davis and Simon Hall finishing together, with Hinckley's Richard Whitelegg a close fourth as the athletes set off on the bike stage.
Davis then showed his class on the cycle section by finishing first on the bike and starting the second 5k a good few minutes in front of the chasing pack.
He finished in a course-record time of 1hr 9min 6sec, beating Jez Cox's previous best by more than a minute. Hall finished second three minutes behind with Halliday third.
The top woman athlete was Sally Bakes, who finished 19th overall in a time of 1.21.03, with Hinckley's Linda Whitelegg second and Army triathlete Claire Westerman fourth.
Other notable performances from Hinckley were Marc Lee (seventh), Andrew Fox (13th) and Dave Warren (20th).
