Parents and campaigners fighting to save children’s heart surgery at Leicester’s Glenfield Hospital are urging people to sign an e-petition to show their support.

The e-petition has been set up by Leicestershire charities Heart Link and Keep the Beat to fight the closure. By lunchtime today (Monday) over 11,000 people had already signed the petition.

Children's heart surgery at Glenfield Hospital is set to be stopped

If 100,000 people sign the petition, a Parliamentary debate could be called on a decision earlier this week to cut from 11 to seven the number of hospitals in England providing surgery for children born with heart problems.

Glenfield Hospital lost out, along with Royal Brompton Hospital in London, Leeds, and the John Radciffe Hospital in Oxford in the decision taken by the Joint Committee of Primary Care Trusts
