'Earthquake' felt in Leicestershire this morning

An earth tremor was felt in Leicestershire in the early hours of this morning.

The British Geological Survey said it had centred in Loughborough at about 5.20am and was 2.9 on the Richter scale with a depth of 12 km.

It was felt across in Anstey, Groby, Syston, Coalville and also across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

A Coalville resident: "I was woken suddenly and felt the house shake. It was enough to wake me from a deep sleep."

    “Omg! This is the worst thing that has ever occured in my life. I was woken at 5am by this catasrophy thinking I was hyperventalating so I rushed outside the house meeting the nemesis of the snow and falling flat on my bottom. Thanks to this double trouble I feel a bad day ahead of me :-( :'-( xo”

    “We heard it, before we felt it, here in Whitwick. The loud rumbling sounded like a large aircraft above us for a start, then when felt the earth shift, and the rumbling continued for sometime afterwards. Probably around 20 seconds in total.
    Oooh, the excitement. Snow AND an earth tremor! QUICK everybody rush to the supermarkets and buy some horse burgers!! ;o)”
