Education fund could help in pursuit of dream
Young people can apply to a fund which could help them follow their dreams.
The Mary Smith Scholarship Fund, which gives awards of between £25 and £150 to those hoping to advance their education or career, was set up in 1936 by Alderman Frederick Smith, an old boy of Ashby School, in memory of his mother.

Applicants must be under 25 and live in or around Ashby, or be a former student of Ashby School or Ivanhoe High School.
Last year, magician Stephen Forrest used his award to pay for props and tuition, while Finn Holmes-Kellett put the money towards the cost of a Zoo Academy course.

The closing date for applications is March 15. All applicants must be available to attend a meeting with the fund's trustees on April 12.
