Egypt expert Pam will be very sorely missed
Desford: Members of Desford Local History Society were among those saddened by the news of the death of Pam Drinkall, who had been a leading light in the society for many years.
Widely respected for her knowledge of and enthusiasm for local history, Pam was also an expert in the field of Egytpology and had not long ago given a fascinating illustrated talk on her latest visit to Egypt.
The next meeting of the Desford Local History Society is due to be held at 7.45pm on Tuesday, March 16, in the Church Centre, Main Street, Desford, and is sure to include tributes to Pam.
Dunton Bassett: Members of the heritage group heard about "little-known Leicestershire" at their last meeting. Bob Trubshaw, who has written several books on the subject, spoke about stones, such as the Humberstone, and other sites and monuments, such as market crosses scattered throughout Leicestershire and Rutland. This month, the group will visit a synagogue.
Birstall: A Women's World Day of Prayer service will take place at Birstall Methodist Church tomorrow at 7.30pm.
Taking part in this service will be Esther Sakwe and her friends from the Cameroon.
Esther is married to the Rev Edward Sakwe, who has been on the Leicester North Circuit for the past three years.
Humberstone: This year's Women's World Day of Prayer will be marked at St Mary's Church.
The service is tomorrow at 2.30pm. It will be led by Mrs Vivienne Frogatt with items from different churches. This year, the service has been arranged by the women of Cameroon. Everyone is welcome.
South Wigston: The Congregational Church, in Blaby Road, will hold a coffee morning, tabletop sale and cake stall on Saturday. It runs from 10am until midday. All proceeds go to the Bible Society.
Wigston: Wigston Magna Mothers' Union was delighted to raise £205 for their chosen charities at their recent Shrove coffee morning.
