Elderly driver hurt in crash dies in hospital

An elderly man has died in hospital after being injured when the car he was driving was involved in a collision on the A6.

The accident happened south of Market Harborough, at the junction with Kettering Road, at 4.25pm on Tuesday, January 1.

Philip Stokes, 77, from Kettering, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He died on Monday.

The driver of the other vehicle, an Audi, was treated at the scene.

A passenger in Mr Stokes's VW Golf was treated at Kettering General Hospital for minor injuries.

Detective Constable David Sharpe, of the serious collision investigation unit, said: "The Golf was joining the A6 from Little Bowden, to travel in the direction of Kettering, and the Audi was travelling in the direction of Market Harborough when the collision occurred.

"I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles before."
