Elderly people were left terrified as men had a food fight in their normally quiet street.

Gardens in Hamble Road, Oadby, were left strewn with eggs, flour and rubbish after the fight involving a group of men at about 2am yesterday.

Leslie Wright, 61, said: "They all turned up in cars and created absolute mayhem in the street for half an hour.

"It wasn't just kids, either – these were fully-grown men.

"It seems to be fun for them to cause all this chaos."

Muriel Chapman, 68, said between 15 and 20 men were outside her house.

She said: "They were all running about and chucking eggs and shouting. I got quite frightened because they were right outside my window.

"When you're in bed in your bungalow, you don't feel safe with lots of six-foot men fighting outside in the night."

Among the junk left on the street were the boxes for about 150 eggs, full and empty flour bags and supermarket carrier bags containing dried yeast, milk, salad cream, shaving foam, pie cases, ketchup, baked beans, cereal and sardines.

Ramola Bhojani, 59, woke to find egg boxes and other litter on her front lawn.

She said: "We only moved here two months ago and we liked the area because it was peaceful."

Councillor Bill Boulter, chairman of Oadby and Wigston Borough Council residents' services committee, said the council would clean the mess up.

He said: "I hope it's a one-off."

“How could the Police be expected to attend when they are too busy arresting victims of crime like David Magson?

    They can't be everywhere.”

“The story reads Elderly left terrified by 2am food fight in street

What this had to do with some of the comments I see on here I do not know, I feel some people just get a kick out of cyber bullying others due to opinions and basic spelling and views.

None of these people have touched upon the story as always, I don¿t comment for fear of a silly reply from these same old people.”

“Hey HA don't go around abusing other countries. I have you know the USA is light years ahead of the UK on almost all fronts, especially the law. Over there when you are caught messing around/being agressive/abusive, you have a good chance of being sent to prision unlike here where you get given a slap on the wrists and are unleashed back on the street to do as you may. HA please don't let your jealousy of another country get in the way when commenting on these shameful stories of Leicester/UK!”

“I cant believe people are commenting on a 'Local News' website with an attitude of there are other things to worry about!. Why are you even on the site if you dont live in leicester. Who are you to say these idiots were just playing and this is harmless fun, the residents were clearly scared!. mature men dont go around throwing food, these brain dead morons didnt give a damn about what the people around them were feeling, they should now be apologising to the residents and cleaning the mess up. Just before i leave this comment though I just wanted to they are no 'bigger' 'greater' issues then the ones that immediately effect you and your life / property! how dare any of you say these ridiculous comments. If this was your grandad / grandma scared at that kind of time you would be fuming!”

“Sarah, I wasn't crticising your non existent children, I merely asked if you had any children and questionned your morals and family values, and yes that of your upbringing if you think people can go around getting away with behaviour like this.

I, and I believe I am in the majority think this behaviour from grown men is simply not acceptable. It has consequences!”

    “Nicky,

first you try to insult me by criticising my non existent children and now my parents. And you think this is acceptable behaviour? I'm all for debate and listening to other opinions but I draw the line at personal insults.

As I have been brought up very well by my parents thank you I shall refrain from lowering myself to your petty level.”

“Sarah, read the story, the residents say they were frightened!!! What gives them the right to go around behaving like this?? Who did they think would clear up the mess?

I don't know what kind of upbringing you had but I was taught right from wrong, and know that this is unacceptable behaviour. I would question your upbringing if you don't see a problem with this sort of behaviour!”

“sounds just like the sort of thing university students would get up to. Is there not a few campuses in that area.”
