Emily Gunn fires Birstall into final
Emily Gunn fired Birstall United Vixens into the County Girls Under-13 final.
Gunn struck twice as Vixens defeated Oadby Wigston Snipers 2-1.
Both teams attacked from the start. Vixens made the first move with Ella Wortley and Gunn racing upfield. At the other end, Hollie Wilkinson and Zoe Frearson had be alert to keep out Snipers.
Vixens managed to get on top with player of the match Poppy Gordon, Wortley, Gunn and Amy Collins pressuring the Snipers defence.
Vixens took the lead after 17 minutes when Wortley crossed for Gunn to score a fine goal.
Snipers were still in the game and Vixens keeper Lucy Hayward had to be on her toes to deny them.
In the second half, Sarah Olsen almost scored from a Gunn cross. Then Olsen became provider for Gunn to get the second goal on 37 minutes.
Snipers turned up the pressure and Vixens seemed to sit back. It resulted in the Oadby side pulling back a goal.
The final 15 minutes were hard for Vixens but they were able to celebrate when the final whistle blew.
Asfordby Amateurs Aces romped into the County Girls Under-14 final with a 7-1 victory over a plucky Marlborough Rovers side.
Aces started slowly and found it difficult to get into their rhythm. But they eventually went ahead with a fine finish from Jade Pereira.
The Aces defence of Sarah Danaher, Nikita Solanki, Sophie Pickering and Lucy Brewer worked hard to keep Marlborough at bay, while goalkeeper Hannah Toon was alert.
The Aces midfield of Nailah Masters, Olivia Taylor, Paige Gunn and Sophie Ellerton worked tirelessly to support the attack with Gunn threatening on the right and Ellerton on the left.
Nailah Master and Olivia Taylor distributed some fabulous passes through to strikers Rachel Burton and Jade Pereira.
Pereira slotted in her second after some fine football but a defensive lapse allowed Marlborough to pull one back.
Aces started the second half in a more determined mood with Master switching to her more familiar right-back role and Danaher moving to central midfield.
Aces struck a third when a superb cross from Gunn was blasted in by Burton. This seemed to spur on the Aces on and Pereira completed her hat-rick.
Aces kept piling on the pressure and some fine work from Taylor, Ellerton and Danaher led to the fifth goal, which was scored by Burton.
Aces went 6-1 ahead when Master played a ball to Gunn on the right. She raced down the right and delivered a ball into the Marlborough area, which was deflected in off a Marlborough player.
Aces added a seventh, Danaher scoring her first-ever goal for the team.
Ellerton was named player of the match for the Aces.
