Woodhouse Eaves have closed to within one point of Premier Division leaders Birstall Village.

They powered to an 89-run victory over Leicester Caribbeans while Birstall's game was a victim of the weather. They were due to play at Wigston Town but the ground was flooded.

Opener Sam Skeet cracked 56 and received good support from captain Steve Markley (32) and Mike Newbold (31 not out) as Woodhouse totalled 207-7.

Caribbeans were soon reduced to 45-7 and, although Akeel Jarrel led a mini-revival with 32, they were all out for 118.

Opening bowlers Paul Oliver and Andy Stovell claimed 3-20 and 3-21 respectively, and Skeet took 2-11 from 10 overs.

Newbold Verdon warmed up for their County Cup heroics with an eight-wicket win over Burton-on-the-Wolds.

The home side were skittled for 78 with wrist-spinner Mark Bird claiming 6-9 off nine overs.

Huw Davies then hit 42 not out as Newbold galloped to their target in the 20th over.

Prasant Gore had a fine all-round game as Bharat Sports beat Twycross by 106 runs.

He cracked 53 with Kiran Singh adding 40 and Prashant Patel 39 in Bharat's 184-8 in 45 overs.

Gore followed up with 4-4 as Twycross were bowled out for 78. Thaqor Patel took 3-15 and Amit Patel 2-6.

Jitu Ira led the way on 66 as Leuva Patidar overhauled Broughton Astley's 135-7 with seven wickets in hand.

The closest finish was at Appleby Magna where Huncote's last pair edged them to victory.

Skipper Matt Richardson hit 50 not out in Appleby's 150-7.

Tim Kirby scored a patient unbeaten 44 in the Huncote run chase but there was a danger that he could run out of partners when they slipped to 123-8.

But Ady Smith (nine) and skipper Wayne Smith (two not out) stayed with Kirby long enough to seal victory. Richardson took 3-18 and Chaz Robey 3-29 for Appleby.
