Escaped inmate was jailed for raping woman in Leicester city centre
A man who went on the run from an open prison in Gloucestershire this week has served prison sentences for rape and kidnap – including a sexual assault in Leicester.
Sean Cawthray (41) was reported missing from HMP Leyhill, in Gloucestershire, on Monday night. It later emerged he was jailed for eight years for raping a 20-year-old woman while he was studying art at De Montfort University in 1993.

He had been jailed four years earlier for raping a 15-year-old girl and attempting to rape another teenager in his native Leeds.
Police have urged people not to approach Cawthray, but to call 999. He is white, about 5ft 10in, of medium build, with short brown hair and blue eyes.
