Ex-biker Edith, 100, enjoys birthday smiles and song
A former biker who lived in the same house for 95 years celebrated her 100th birthday with 200 friends and family.
Edith Atkins, who lived in Oban Street, in Newfoundpool, Leicester, celebrated her landmark on Saturday.
A party was held at Elizabeth House Residential Care Home, in New Parks, Leicester, attended by Lord Mayor Manjula Sood.
Mrs Atkins's nephew, Brian Hewson, 67, from Llandegla, near Wrexham, said: "The secret to her long and happy life would be staying in the same house for 95 years. She moved to Leicester from Liverpool in 1912, when she was three, and lived with her aunt and uncle in Oban Street.
"She outlived them and her 15 brothers and sisters, and moved to the home two years ago. She's a great woman, who always made me smile."
Mrs Atkins was a keen biker and used to travel with her husband, Harry, on their BSA motorbike and sidecar.
Elizabeth House assistant manager Sharon Summers said: "Edith was shattered afterwards, but enjoyed every minute. The Salvation Army was here and played tunes and all the folks sang along.
"It was a great day."
