FA Vase: Oadby Town march into last 16
Two first-half goals helped Oadby Town to book their place in the last 16 of the FA Vase.
The Poachers beat Spartan South Midlands League side Ampthill Town 2-1 at Greene King Park on Saturday.
They took control of the game in the first 45 minutes in front of a healthy crowd of more than 400.
Matt Moore, who starred in Coalville Town's Vase run to Wembley last term, fired Town into the lead after just 13 minutes.
Then former Leicester City favourite Matt Piper made it 2-0 just after the half-hour mark.
There were no more goals until the final five minutes when the visitors pulled one back which set up a nerve-jangling finish.
However, the county side held out to go into the hat for today's fifth round draw.
There was more good news for Town on the East Midlands Counties League front, where Oadby are among the title chasers.
Leaders Heanor Town were on the wrong end of a sensational result as they were beaten 6-3 at home by Barrow Town.
Carl Adams scored twice for the Riversiders, Jamie Allen, Jon Coppard, Cain Gray and an own goal completing a fabulous win for Barrow.
St Andrews stayed in the running, too, as they came away from Graham St Prims with a hard-earned 4-3 win under their belts. Jim Mee struck twice, including the winner two minutes from time, with Sam Surridge and Kieran Linnett also on target.
Liam Read, Toby Warner and Leon Doughty all netted before the break as Blaby & Whetstone Athletic ran out 3-0 victors at Radford.
Ryan Amoo blasted a hat-trick in Thurnby Nirvana's 7-1 romp over Ellistown. Matt Melbourne added a couple with Alex Johnson and Brett Marvin wrapping up a lop-sided win.
There was no joy for Anstey Nomads, however. They were beaten 2-1 by Holbrook. Bardon Hill Sports also lost 2-1 at struggling Greenwood Meadows.
