FA delegates have been shown around Leicester for the final time as the city bids to host a World Cup match in 2018.

As well as inspecting Leicester City's Walkers stadium, they toured potential training grounds, fan parks and hotels to ensure they were up to scratch.

Abbey Park and Victoria Park have been earmarked for huge "fan zones", which would provide live coverage of games and round-the-clock entertainment for supporters.

Training facilities at Loughborough University, Leicester City Football Club and Leicester Tigers have also been examined.

City councillor Patrick Kitterick, cabinet member for regeneration and transport, said Leicester has all the "core assets" to be successful in its bid.

He said: "We have everything here already. The infrastructure is ideal. We've got a stadium, universities, hospitals and good transport links.

"The visit was a chance for us to put a bit more flesh on the bones.

"We showed off the great diversity we have across the county and city and the fantastic community involvement going on.

"I think our bid ticks all the boxes but we'll have to wait and see in December."

Nick Carter, chairman of Prospect Leicestershire, which is helping to back the bid, said the overwhelming public support from the people of Leicestershire had been great for the bid.

He said: "We've been very lucky that we've had great support from the people of Leicester who want to see a World Cup match in the city. We need to be seen to have the public behind the bid and that is very much the case."

The team behind the bid will receive feedback on the visit later this month and a final document will need to be submitted to the FA on November 6.

An announcement will be made by the FA in December to say whether or not Leicester's bid has been a success. So far, 16 cities are in the running to be part of the 2018 World Cup Bid.
