Attractions included a miniature boating lake for steam-powered boats and rides on a vintage tank engine, named Leonard.
Among those who went along was four-year-old Liam Hurd, of Broughton Astley, who was particularly enthusiastic about Leonard.
Liam's mum, Louise Domagala, said: "We've been loads of times before and it's always a good day out.
"Liam really enjoyed the train that went round and round."
The event attracted specialist steam toy retailers from around the country.
Abbey Pumping Station, in Corporation Road, was the city's main sewerage plant until it closed in 1964.
Now home to the Museum of Science and Technology, it houses exhibits which reflect Leicester's "industrial, technological and scientific heritage".
