Female football fever set to hit Leicestershire

Female football fever will be hitting Leicestershire this weekend.

The County FA is again supporting the annual national women's and girls' football focus week, which starts on Saturday when a number of unique, fun and inter-active football-related events take place across the county.

The focus week will see local FA Charter Standard clubs open their doors to run free sessions to encourage females of all ages to get involved.

Referees courses will also take place to support the growing number of females wanting to take up the whistle.

The activities will culminate in a main event on Saturday, March 3 at Holmes Park, Whetstone, when the FA girls football road show will take over the County's headquarters.

Saturday: Female referee's course, Holmes Park, Whetstone, 14yr plus, 9am-5pm; Taster and coaching session, Long Clawson recreation fields, Melton, 6-11yr, 11am-1pm; Birstall United open day, Meadow Lane, Birstall, 11-16 yr, 9am-10.30pm; Birstall United open day, Meadow Lane, Birstall 6–10yr old, 1am–12pm; Harborough Town open session, Harborough Town FC, 11-12yr, 11.30am – 1.30pm; Leicester City Ladies skills session, Babington Community College, Leicester 5-11yrs, 10am-11.30am; Leicester City Ladies skills session, Aylestone Park FC, 5-11yrs, 10am-11.30am.

Sunday: Female referee's course, Holmes Park, Whetstone, 14yr plus, 9pm-5pm.

Monday, Feb 27: Year 7 girls schools futsal, Gateway College, Leicester, 12yr, 4pm-5.30pm.

Tuesday, Feb 28: Cosby United open session, Lutterworth College, Lutterworth 10-14yr, 7.30pm-8.30pm.

Wednesday, Feb 29: Year 8/9 girls schools futsal, Gateway College, 13-14yr, 4pm-5.30pm.

Thursday, March 1: Just play female-only session, Stephenson College, Coalville, 16yr plus, 12.15pm-1.45pm; Just play female-only session, Hermitage Recreation Ground, Coalville, 16yr plus, 4.30pm-5.30pm; Leicester City Ladies inclusive session, St Margaret's Pastures, Leicester, 8-16yr plus, 4.30pm-6pm; Leicester City Ladies open session, St Margaret's Pastures, Leicester, 5-16yr plus, 6pm-9pm.

Saturday, March 3: FA female football road show, Holmes Park, Whetstone, 7-16yr, 10.30am-3pm; Cosby United open session, Lutterworth College, Lutterworth, 10-14yr, 10.30am-11.30am.
