Flats evacuated after fire alarm in Leicester city centre
Flats were evacuated as a precaution when firefighters responded to an alarm at city centre block this afternoon.
Fire crews were called to Midland House, in Charles Street, at about 2.45pm when an automatic fire alarm went off.

Some of the flats on the sixth floor were evacuated, while firefighters investigated what was happening.
A fire service spokeswoman said: "Four appliances and an aerial platform were dispatched as it was an automatic fire alarm in a high rise domestic premises."

She said the building was checked and the crews left after about 30 minutes after discovering it was a false alarm.
A woman, who lives in the building and asked not to be named, said: "We didn't know what was going on, the firemen just knocked on our door and told us we had to get out."
