The Environment Agency has said that flooding of the River Soar is possible at Sharnford, Croft, Littlethorpe and the Mill on the Soar car park, in Broughton Astley – as well as at Slash Lane in Sileby and the Mountsorrel to Sileby Road.

There is currently an alert in place on the lower River Soar including tributaries from Cossington to Redhill at the River Trent.

Alerts are also in place for low-lying land and roads near the River Wreake from Stapleford to the River Soar at Syston Mill Lane and Water Lane at Frisby on the Wreake, Station Road at Thrussington, Broome Lane at Ratcliffe on the Wreake, Frisby, Hoby, Brooksby, Thrussington, Ratcliffe and Syston. All these areas remain at risk of flooding as river levels rise.

“We haven't had that much rain. What's going on that after an unexceptional amount of rain there are flood alerts all over the place?

Is it too many people paving over their gardens and too many carparks so that water runs off rather than soaks in?”
