Leicester Mercury

JOHN FLOWER: Although known as The "Leicester Artist", John Flower (1793-1861) was far more than just a provincial painter and the fact that so many of his works reside in private collections is testimony to his reputation and popularity.

But it is as a landscape and architectural artist working within the county that we chiefly remember him.

Born in Leicester, he began earning a living as an artist and teacher in 1813, residing at several addresses before moving, in 1851, to what is now Regent Road.

You can learn more about him at Donington Le Heath Manor House, Coalville, where you can see the exhibition Self Taught Genius: The Life and Work of John Flower until December 14.
