France has not been the happiest of hunting grounds for Leicester Tigers ahead of their Heineken Cup trip to Toulouse this weekend.

The last time Tigers won on French soil was back in 2006 when they beat Bourgoin 13-28 at Stade Pierre Rajon.

Since then, they have come away empty-handed – save the odd bonus point – in all five of their subsequent trips across the Channel.

Tigers' fifth straight loss on French soil came as they suffered their first defeat in last season's Heineken Cup campaign at Clermont Auvergne.

Ben Youngs scored the opening try of the game but 11 points from Morgan Parra and a try for Julien Malzieu saw the hosts lead 16-5 at the break.

Wesley Fofana added two more tries after the break before Tigers were awarded a late penalty try.

The try came despite Tigers being reduced to 13 men following the double sin-binning of Manu Tuilagi and George Chuter.

Tigers did seek revenge though, and came away 23-19 victors in the return fixture at Welford Road.

Perpignan 24-19 Tigers

Date: December 11, 2010

Venue: Stade Aime Giral

Tigers' 100th appearance in the Heineken Cup ended in disappointment as they fell to a 24-19 defeat at the hands of Perpignan at Stade Aime Giral.

Captain Geordan Murphy scored their only try of the game with Toby Flood kicking the rest of the points, including a vital penalty six minutes from time.

With Tigers trailing by eight points, his kick from 45m out secured a bonus point to keep them top of their pool.

Clermont 40-30 Tigers

Date: December 19, 2009

Venue: Stade Marcel Michelin

Tigers scored three tries in the closing 10 minutes but were still beaten 40-30 by Clermont Auvergne in their Heineken Cup Pool Three clash.

Two first-half tries from Napolioni Nalaga and one from flanker Alexandre Lapandry had given Clermont a 25-9 advantage going into the break, with all the points for Tigers coming from the boot of Toby Flood.

With just minutes left, Anthony Allen, Flood and Jeremy Staunton all got over the line but, ultimately, Tigers were unable to pick up that elusive bonus point.

Perpignan 26-20 Tigers

Date: December 14, 2008

Venue: Stade Aime Giral

A bonus point was all Tigers could muster when they suffered defeat at the hands of Perpignan.

Tries from Tom Croft and Scott Hamilton brought them within three points of the home side but the imperious boot of Perpignan debutant Dan Carter eased the crowd's nerves with a penalty four minutes from time.

The New Zealand fly-half was at the heart of the action for the home side and his 16 points proved the difference.

Toulouse 22-11 Tigers

Date: December 16, 2007

Venue: Stade Toulouse

This return Heineken Cup encounter, the first time the sides had met in Toulouse since Tigers' Orange Cup defeat to the French side in 2001, followed a 14-9 victory at Welford Road.

A first-half try from Tom Varndell, together with two penalties from Andy Goode gave Tigers real hope of recording back-to-back victories.

But tries from Clement Poitrenaud and Vincent Clerc, along with 12 points shared from Jean-Baptiste Elissalde and Vincent Courrent, ensured it was the hosts who picked up the win and moved clear at the top of the pool.

“Quite agree....but what really counts about getting out of the pool stages is either winning bonus points against the lowly Italians or losing bonus against the French or Irish on the away legs and due to team selection over the previous years we've done nether
It does give us the opportunity to qualify for the knockout stage as the highest runners up in the pool and there's only two place up for grabs”
