Three-time jazz vocalist of the year Clare Teal plays Loughborough Town Hall tonight.

In the early days of her career, the singer the Mail on Sunday called the “new queen of swing” was likened to musical luminaries like Ella Fitzgerald, but these days Teal needs no such comparisons, after making a name for herself with classy contemporary jazz tunes.

Her seductive voice and song-writing skills once earned her a deal with Sony which was rumoured to be the largest-ever for a UK jazz artist.

Teal was championed by Michael Parkinson, who invited her on to his show; she promptly stole it.

Now she’s a presenter herself, on Radio 2’s Big Band Special.

The show is billed as featuring “brilliant musicians, sparkling new material and inspired interpretations of the great American songbook.”

Curiously the Loughborough Town Hall website contains the intriguing warning “this show may contain loud music”. How odd: perhaps she’s doing a speed metal set.

Probably not though, as she’s promoting her new album, Clare Teal Live At Ebenezer Chapel.

Still not convinced? The Independent crowned her “the new first lady of jazz” while the Daily

Telegraph said “in this overcrowded field, Clare Teal deserves special attention.”

So don’t miss her at Loughborough tonight, at 8pm. Tickets are £15. Call 01509 231 914.
