Fury misdirected
Wow! The anger in Ray Watson's letter "No 1 hits mindless note"(Mailbox, December 23) almost had me pinned up against the back wall.
However, he's entitled to his opinions and, fortunately, in this country, he's entitled to voice his opinions in public, unlike people in some other countries.
Rage Against the Machine were a protest band who wanted free speech for all, and who were against forced child labour, children forced into the sex trade, and supported many other causes.
They disbanded some time ago and initially, were nothing to do with the Facebook protest, which apparently was to stop Simon Cowell monopolising Christmas number ones.
Eventually "RATM" agreed to reform and play a concert to support the protest.
On the positive side, the swearing was bleeped out, some money has been raised and donated to charity, and the riff in the chorus is as good as it gets in heavy rock.
As for looking ridiculous, isn't that sometimes a part of rock music?
The guitarist in AC/DC goes on stage dressed in school uniform, and many other bands wear over-the-top make-up and clothes.
