A broken gas pipe led to a major road in Hinckley being closed yesterday.

The gas main was damaged on Rugby Road, where county council contractors are carrying out roadworks.

The National Grid was called in to fix the problem and diversions were put in place. At the time of going to press, engineers said it was unlikely the problem would be solved until later today.

Domestic gas supplies in the area were not affected.

“Wow more problems for our pathetic little town. It took me nealy 40 minutes to get from hinckley to three pots on the bus today all thanks to rugby road been closed. I would of liked to get to the three pots in 7 minutes which is the usual time it takes for the joruney. As for advance warnings about the problem there is no signs advertising that rugby road is closed which is absolutley stupid. I ask you who runs the council human beings or monkeys. They do not have a clue about things especially the planning department. When it comes round to running the town they do not have a clue about things. It has taken to long to fix/fixing this gas leak and until its fixed the town centre and the traffic will suffer not that the town centre does not suffer all ready with all the recent shops leaving but hey that is a different storey.
