Going for a scan can save your life

I did. Professor Naylor and the vascular surgery department at Leicester Royal Infirmary and their screening programme found I had an aneurysm of the aorta in 2005. It measured 2.7cm.
Over seven years it had grown and a few days ago I had to go to the infirmary for a small operation.
The operation went well thanks to Prof Naylor and his surgery team, the nursing staff in the recovery ward and the wonderful nursing staff on ward 21.

During the seven years it took to grow to 6.2cm this year, I had no symptoms. You do not know you have one until you have a scan.
