Going for a scan can save your life
Men over 60, you have a silent time bomb ticking inside you.
I did. Professor Naylor and the vascular surgery department at Leicester Royal Infirmary and their screening programme found I had an aneurysm of the aorta in 2005. It measured 2.7cm.
Over seven years it had grown and a few days ago I had to go to the infirmary for a small operation.
The operation went well thanks to Prof Naylor and his surgery team, the nursing staff in the recovery ward and the wonderful nursing staff on ward 21.

Thank you for all the care and attention you gave me.
If I had not gone along to the screening programme at my health centre, in Ashby, I would never have known I had the aneurysm.
During the seven years it took to grow to 6.2cm this year, I had no symptoms. You do not know you have one until you have a scan.
Let the aneurysm burst and it spells disaster for you.
Please, if you are a man in this age group and have not had a scan, go to your doctor and arrange to have one. It only takes five minutes and it could save your life.
We are very lucky in Leicestershire to have one of the top hospitals specialising in vascular surgery, run by Prof Naylor.
Save a life – have a scan.
Mike Pratt, Ashby.
