Birstall will represent Leicestershire & Rutland in the English Union's Champion Club tournament at Woodbridge this weekend.

They qualified by winning the Corah Shield in this summer's County Club Championship at Hinckley.

Michael Reed became County champion there, and his aggregate of 140 counted towards his club's winning total of 433, which saw them finish 11 strokes clear of Kirby Muxloe.

Chris Webb, with 146, and Steve Sansome, with 147, also counted.

Birstall's line-up at Woodbridge is Reed, Sansome and 15-year-old Jack Merry, who was runner-up in the County men's match-play championship to another teenager, Greg Eason (Kirby Muxloe) at Charnwood Forest in July.

All three scores count over the two days at Woodbridge.
