Matthew Cort continued his winning ways when he tied top in the PGA Midland pro-am tournament at Menzies Welcombe.

It came hot on the heels of Cort's success in winning the national assistants title for the second season in a row.

Cort (Rothley Park) shot one-under-par 69, including five birdies, to share the slot with John-Paul Banbury (Moor Hall) and Darren Prosser (Halfpenny Green).

Ian Lyner (The Leicestershire) was fifth on 71, with Craig Shave (Whetstone) joint sixth on 72.

Cort and his amateurs were runners-up in the pro-am section with their total of 130, with Shave and his line-up third on 132.

Several Leicestershire professionals did well in the big PGA Midland pro-am at Moor Hall.

Neil Evans, now attached to Market Harborough, carded three-under-par 67 to tie top with James Wright (Swindon).

Cort was tied for third on 68 with Danny Taylor (Swingers GR).

Lyner and Paul Broadhurst shared fifth on one-under 69 with two more pros, and Mark Pegg (Hinckley) was tied for ninth on 70 in the pro-medal and headed the winning team with their 125 aggregate.

In a similar regional pro-am at Shirley, Lyner shot level-par 72 to finish joint fifth, with Shave eighth on 74 and Matt Stephens (Kirby Muxloe) tied for ninth on 76.

Ashley Mason was the low scorer for Leicestershire when they competed in the County Championship Midland qualifier at Belton Park.

Mason (Glen Gorse) shot 70-72 to finish with a level-par 142 aggregate.

But on a dramatic day when hosts Lincolnshire were disqualified for signing a wrong score, it was Worcestershire who clinched the one place at stake into the English final with their 880 total.

All six team scores counted over 36 holes in this testing tournament.

Leicestershire finished in seventh place on 905. County's scores:

142 A Mason (Glen Gorse) 70-72; 149 D Gibson (Cosby) 75-74; 152 S Sansome (Birstall) 79-73; 153 S Mayfield (Kilworth Springs) 77-76 154, J Mayfield (Kilworth Springs) 79-75; 155 M Anderson (Kibworth) 81-74.

Final placings: 880 Worcestershire; 886 Warwickshire; 892 Shropshire/Herefordshire; 893 Staffordshire; 894 Nottinghamshire; 897 Northamptonshire; 905 Leicestershire; 909 Cambridgeshire; 913 Derbyshire; DQ Lincolnshire.

James Burnett (Lincolnshire) won the Norman Russell Trophy, which is awarded to the leading individual. He shot 70-68-138.
