Golf: Record-breaker Steve Sansome makes it six of the best
Steve Sansome lifted the coveted Philip Wykes Bowl for a record sixth time when he won the County PGA Matchplay Championship.
Birstall's Sansome beat Liam Plant (Cosby) in the 18-hole final at Rothley Park to add to the Leicestershire Fox title he won for the first time last month.

Steve Sansome
After winning the Wykes Bowl in 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2004, Sansome equalled the long-standing record, joining the late Guy Wolstenholme and Roger Christian, when he claimed his fifth title in 2006 at Hinckley.
This season's championship was contested in a different format, due to the difficult weather conditions. It was scheduled to be decided at Longcliffe, but after the strokeplay championship had to be rearranged there, Rothley Park stepped in to help out and stage the Wykes Bowl. It was played over three separate days rather than on one weekend.

Sansome was in good form in the final against Plant.
He won the first to go ahead, then took the third and fifth to increase his advantage.
Plant birdied the par-three seventh to cut his deficit, but Sansome restored his three-up lead when he birdied the eighth hole.
He also birdied the 10th and 11th before Plant won the short 12th, but a par-four at the 14th saw Sansome win 5&4 to make county history.
In the semi-finals, Sansome was a 5&4 winner against Leicestershire team-mate Martin Anderson (Kibworth), while Plant won 3&1 against Chris Webb (Birstall). Results round-up:
