A massive development to build 4,250 houses plus schools, roads and businesses to the west of Leicester will go ahead, without further Government scrutiny.

The Lubbesthorpe plan was given the go ahead locally back in November, when Blaby District Council’s planning committee voted to approve the plans, despite opposition from thousands of residents in Leicester Forest East, Enderby and elsewhere.

Since then, the developers have been waiting for the Government to give the project the final nod.

The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles, had the option of “calling in” the application for closer scrutiny because of the size of it.

“Why shouldn't people be able to live in places where schools represent the true cultural mix of the UK. Would you want you child being taught in a place where 1 to 1 classsroom support is needed to help kids to learn English (because their parents could not be bothered)? No? Well have some sympathy.

'White flight' and 'Sundown Segregation' is real - get used to it.”

“The officers run Blaby Council. Always have done, always will.

The councillors are only voting fodder at Blaby. Not a dynamic one amongst them.”

It matters not what anyone thinks, other than the Councillors who we voted in TO REPRESENT US!”

“With net migration in the UK at 200,000 per year, we need more housing. Until people start voting with their feet instead of all this hot air, decisions like this will continue.”

“I do have my doubts about Blaby having the skills to manage the development of such a large scale building project. With the recent closure of the local doctor's surgery and heavy flows of traffic along the A47 and distributor roads, together with full local schools, I have my doubts that Blaby will pull off what the local community and the government expects it to deliver. Let's hope they don't make a ****-up of Lubbesthorpe like they did with Thorpe Astley.”

    “Eric Pickles - 2010

Communities in England will get the power to decide where shops, offices and homes are to be built, the government will announce. Under the plans, local referendums will be held, which could force councils to adopt "neighbourhood plans".
