Girls' football in Leicestershire has been given a massive boost.

Quorn Juniors have received a £5,000 grant awarded by the Football Foundation, the country's largest sports charity, to develop four new girls' teams over the next three years.

The club are working in partnership with Rawlins Community College to create opportunities for girls aged nine to 13.

Paul Thorogood, chief executive of the Football Foundation, said: "We warmly congratulate the club and the local FA for their hard work and dedication in securing this award.

"Sport is playing a central role in helping people to stay fit, strengthen communities and promote responsibility.

"This new project in Charnwood is but one example of thousands across the country that the Football Foundation is supporting."

Adam Holyoake, football development officer at the Leicestershire & Rutland County FA, said: "The County FA have worked closely with Quorn Juniors on this project. It is a great boost for girls in Charnwood and gives them more opportunities to play football."
