Great Glen youngster wins Leicestershire music festival cup
A cup presented in memory of a former Leicester Mercury music critic and distinguished composer has been presented for the first time.
Michael Arnold, nine, from Great Glen, became the first person to receive the Peter Crump Memorial Cup on Saturdayat the 83rd Leicestershire Competitive Festival of Music and Dramatic Art.
The cup was awarded to the winner of the under 10s piano solo class. Mr Crump was a music teacher who taught hundreds of young people across Leicestershire.
Toni Fazaeli of Stoneygate, Leicester, whose son was taught by Peter and who with her husband Alan Tuckett, donated the silver cup in Peter's memory, said: "Peter cultivated musical abilities and love of music in his pupils, whether they were gifted or initially showed only a small glimmer of potential. The cup is a small tribute to a great and generous piano teacher and to help support Peter's strong commitment to young pianists being given opportunities to perform."
The young performers of the year competition, drawn from winners of classes during the festival, take place on Saturday, November 28 at North Evington Free Church, Gedding Road, Leicester, at 7.15pm. Call Mrs Pearson on 0116 271 6824 for info.
