This is Leicestershire

Leicester's drink-fuelled, lank-haired, schlock-rockers are back. Whether you like it or not.

Cult city dirtbags The Hunters Club stage a grebo reunion at The Charlotte on Monday night, featuring the original 1980s line-up of Otis Oblivion, Rikki Torrent, Django Slydog and Reverend Reason.

They were the darlings of the music press in the days of the Grebo scene, along with city outfits Crazyhead and Gaye Bykers on Acid.

The band known as the Black Hole of Rock'n'Roll – who were named after a short-lived Judge Dredd sub-plot in the sci-fi comic 2000 AD – first launched their assault on an unwitting Britain with their Good Running EP.

They then set off for Europe on a tour with their partners in grime, the Gaye Bykers, driving from gig to gig in a clapped out van and camping out between shows.

The band were known for a rather reckless gimmick: burning their hats as part of their live show. On one occasion, they also nearly managed to ignite half the audience, too.

After numerous line-up changes, and a couple of infamous Abbey Park Festival appearances, they signed off with a live album, Burnt Alive.

Lead singer Otis Oblivion has run the Stayfree Empire for the last 20 years, while guitarist Django Slydog was once deputy editor for the Mercury. Though not under those names, naturally.

And now they're back. Older, but not necessarily any wiser.

Expect ear trouble on Monday night.

While we're at it: how about a Huge Big Massive reunion too?
