SAPCOTE: An interesting and varied programme of events has been revealed to Sapcote Heritage Group members for the new year.

Tomorrow, at 7.30pm in All Saints' Church Hall, Hugh Beavin will speak about Hinckley Post Office and postal services to Hinckley over three centuries. Visitors are welcome for a suggested donation of £2.50.

Other interesting topics to be covered in 2010 include Leicestershire Privies, the discovery of the actual site of Bosworth Battlefield, the history of windmills, moths of Leicestershire and Rutland, 1960s fashion and the life of a Victorian servant.

SHARNFORD: The three pupils of Sharnford music teacher Elizabeth Hextall, who sat examinations in the winter session, have achieved top grades and distinctions.

With Trinity Guildhall, distinctions were awarded to Molly James, 13, for Grade 3 Flute and to Rebecca Seavers, 18, for Grade 8 Flute.

Mature student Phillipa Lightowler-Ogston also passed Grade 8 Flute with the Associated Board.

SHARNFORD: Tickets for the village Parent Teachers Association quiz night on Friday, January 29, will remain on sale from the school office until Friday. Teams of up to four people are invited to take part at a charge of £6 per person including food.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Evington: On Monday, at 4pm, the Friends of Evington Park and Village Green are holding an open meeting in Evington House. If you are interested in joining this committee, or forming a "Friends of" group for another park, you can hear Helen Lang of The Friends of Knighton Park talking about their successful group. Evington: An open meeting is to take place on Monday, February 22, in Evington House to form the Evington Community Orchard Group (ECOG). It will start at 6.30pm.

The community orchard is a collaborative project with Evington Park Services and Transition Leicester. Once the ECOG has been established, fruit and nut trees will be planted in Evington Park.

Loughborough: The Farmers' Market managed to carry on regardless of the weather.

A full range of meat was available from Blackbrook Traditional Meats, (supported by The Hairy Bikers), Brockleby Farm, Tomlinsons, Woodhouse Farm and Oslinc with its ostrich meat products.

The next market will be held at Devonshire Square, Loughborough, on February 10.
