Jessie J may be about to shave her head for Comic Relief but a Leicester Crown Court probation officer beat her to it this afternoon when he shaved his beard off.

John Pugh, 61, from Wigston, raised around £500 for the appeal by having his beard of over 20 years, completely shaved-off.

    And the final few hairs.

John, who last shaved his beard for Comic Relief in 1993 raising £262, said: "I've had a beard for most of my adult life really. The last time I shaved it off my wife didn't like it and demanded I grow it back immediately. I think it scared my children a bit as well, they have only ever known daddy with a beard."

The shave took place at Leicester's Crown Court in front of an enthusiastic audience of barristers and court staff.

As the last few chin hairs fell to the floor John received a round of applause for his brave efforts.

And he added: "Some people have botox, some have plastic surgery I'm just having my beard shaved in the hope of losing 20 years and looking 41 again."
